Happy Memorial Day and also what happens to be the final Melanoma Monday of Skin Cancer Awareness month! Melanoma is a serious form of skin cancer with the potential to spread to other areas of the body. Becoming familiar with the markings on your own skin is a necessity, as it then becomes easier to recognize something new. Although the average case is seen in those over the age of 50, it isn't uncommon for people in their 30's and even younger to be diagnosed with a melanoma. Melanoma is also the most common form of cancer among young women ages 25-29.

The good news is early detection goes a long way! Here are some quick tips on how to stay ahead of the curve:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
☀ Know your family's skin cancer history
☀ Perform your own routine head-to- toe checks for both old and new spots
☀ Wear and reapply sunscreen daily as needed
☀ Be mindful of your time spent in the sun
☀ Attend annual skin checks with your dermatologist
☀ Say no 🚯 to tanning beds!
